Home Remedies to Remove Blackheads


Standing before the mirror and squeezing your skin so that you could remove that little black thing known as blackhead that is interfering with your beauty, is a common thing. But only removing cannot help you. You have to know the cause to get complete cure as well as know the things you need to avoid doing when you have blackheads and simple home remedies to remove blackheads naturally.

Causes of Blackheads:

The real cause behind a blackhead is the same as behind an acne pimple. This is believed to be caused by an increase in oil production of the body, at the same time as there is an infection of certain bacterial strains, notably P. acnes. The real driving force behind acne is still not clear which is quiet disappointing, given the advances in medical field for other diseases and conditions.

1. Fenugreek Seeds:


How to DO:

  • Get a handful of fenugreek seeds. Soak them in water overnight.
  • Next morning, crush the seeds to form a paste.
  • Add some water and a few drops of lemon juice to form a paste.
  • Apply this paste on your skin and keep it on for 30 minutes.
  • It feels like a protein mask as the seeds are high in protein.
  • Wash this off after 30 minutes with warm water.
  • This home remedy can take away some of your blackheads.
  • Repeat every day to get rid of blackheads completely.

2. Grainy Oatmeal:


Oatmeal is so much more than a regular breakfast cereal, it’s used as a beauty ingredient as well! When it comes to using it to remove annoying blackheads, it acts as a natural product. It scrubs dead skin cells away, and removes bacteria and oil.

How to DO:

  • Put ¼ cup of oats into a bowl.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of honey, lemon juice and 2 teaspoons of yoghurt.
  • Using a wooden spoon, mix all the ingredients well.
  • Apply it on your face and leave it to dry for 5-10 minutes.
  • Wash it off with cold water.

3. Lemon Juice Scrub:


Lemon juice is good for removing deep blackheads as well. You are sure to get good results, as the vitamins and nutrients in lemon juice work on all skin types.


  • Lemon juice.
  • Honey.
  • Yogurt.
  • Salt.
  • Rosewater or milk.
  • Jar or bowl.

How to DO:

  • Mix some honey, yogurt, salt and lemon juice and keep it in the bowl or jar.
  • Now scrub the area affected. Apply this natural mixture evenly.
  • You may also mix rosewater or milk with your lemon juice to have a facial cleanser.
  • Apply this every day for up to 10-12 days.

4. Egg Wash:


How to DO:

  • Raw eggs are an effective home remedy to get rid of blackheads.
  • Beat one to two egg whites, mixed with one tablespoon of honey.
  • Apply this mixture over the area of blackheads.
  • leave for 30 minutes and wash off with warm water.

5. Baking Soda:


Baking soda is often marketed in the cosmetics industry as a micro dermabrasion product. However, regular baking soda is just as effective as the overpriced brand products you’d find in a drug store.

How to DO:

  • To create a paste, mix one teaspoon of baking soda with two teaspoons of purified water.
  • Next, apply to the affected area, massage thoroughly, then rinse.
  • leave for 30 minutes and wash off with warm water.
  • Apply this every day for up to 10-12 days.
  • This will not only remove dead or damaged skin but also loosen away the dirt and oil that causes blackheads.

6. Cinnamon:


A powerful treatment and prevention tool for blackhead outbreak is the use of cinnamon with lemon juice or honey.

How to DO:

  • A mixture of one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of lemon juice.
  • And can be directly applied to the entire face for a 10 to 15-minute treatment.
  • For an overnight treatment, apply a paste of one teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder.
  • Remove in the morning and repeat each bedtime for 10 days.

7. Bentonite Clay:


Bentonite clay has been used for years as a treatment for skin problems. Bentonite clay is rich in minerals and works by drawing out the sebum, dead cells and dirt locked in the pores. When mixed with water, it releases the minerals and other beneficial compounds to the skin.


  • Bentonite clay – 1 tablespoon.
  • Water / Lemon / Apple Cider Vinegar – 3 tablespoons.

How to DO:

  • Mix the water with the bentonite clay to get a creamy (Attention: not runny!) paste
  • Then use clean cotton dabs or your fingers to cover the face with a thin bentonite clay layer.
  • Let the mask sit for 15 to 25 minutes or until it has dried and hardened, then rinse with warm water and Apply moisturizer.
  • It’s key to keeping your skin healthy, toned, and wrinkle-free.

8. Cinnamon and Honey:


Both cinnamon and honey are exquisite ingredients to use in home remedies for removing acne and blackheads. While honey carries a host of beneficial properties for the skin, including powerful antibacterial ones, cinnamon is an antiseptic and a great way to improve blood circulation. Using these two ingredients in a powerful face mask will remove acne and blackheads. In addition, your skin will look healthy, smooth and clear.

How to DO:

  • First, mix the honey and cinnamon powder in a small ceramic bowl until the two ingredients are fully incorporated and you get a thick paste.
  • Then, apply a thin layer of the paste on your nose or affected area of the face.
  • Apply the cotton pads over the paste to make sure it doesn’t attract air born impurities and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  • Then, remove the paste with the cotton pads and any other honey & cinnamon residues with lukewarm water.
